and this this year to this farm are 'apple slushies' - so we splurged and got one to share amongst the 5 of us and it was delicious! Sammy asks to go back for one of those because 'they are my favourite'.

apples
On Sunday, Sept 20th we went to the Apple farm on the way back from church - had a picnic lunch there and enjoyed a lovely sunny afternoon! Dana and her Girls met us there too!

FNB
Friday Night Basketball has been around for a LONG time. Matt, my brother, participated in it one season when he was young. It's a great organization through AIA (Athletes in Action - Power to Change) which is Faith-Based and incorporates God into the sports.
Elijah is signed up for FNB and had his first practice last night!
The practice went for 1.5 hours - where they actually focused on learning to dribble, learning the Triple Threat position and some shooting. Elijah is fairly short and hasn't been able to shoot the ball into the high-hoops yet, but that will come! I am happy we have him enrolled in this sport!
(this jersey goes past Elijah's knees! so tucking it in seems to be the way he'll want to wear it! LOL)
Since Jason is out of Province {again}, I had 5 kids in tow as we took Elijah to practice! But I brought a bucket of Lego along for Sammy, Kelly and Lily to play in the corner and Gabi, well she just hung out and watched and made friends with the other Moms watching beside us!

interaction ~ apples, leaves, Thanksgiving, pumpkins
Fall has set in, the air is chilly, the apples are crisp and the pumpkins are ready! Perfect time to decorate for fall in your home (check out a link I have on the side ---> called "Nesting Place" for awesome decor ideas), to do a fall craft with your children and to incorporate some new reportoire of songs/poems into your everyday conversation and storytimes with your children!
I've done a post like this in 2006 with different songs/poems... click here...
This is from a booklet Elijah received in his class that they are learning, I thought I'd share with you! (if you click the picture it should enlarge so you can read the words more clearly)

Have fun!

During the week of September 7th - Jason was out of province for work for a few days and Alexa's husband was hunting... so we met up one night for a picnic... and another night we met at McD's for supper/play! It was perfect!
Well, on the 9th, the day we went to McD's Alexa half-jokingly-half-serious asked Gabi if she wanted to come home with her as we approached our vehicles. Knowing she was more serious than joking... and since we had her "hippo" along (otherwise there was no way I'd send her, her hippo is her all at nighttime/nap), Gabi ended up going home with Alexa and her gang of children for her very first sleepover (besides Grandpa and Grandma's house)!!!!
I felt naked leaving for home without her, but it went over well! Lucky girl!
Alexa even bathed them when they got home! Looks like they had fun!

Gabi went to sleep with no issue - waking up at about 4:00am when Alexa just re-covered her with a blanket and she slept til Erin woke at 6:00-something. I was prepared to go and get her in the middle of the night if need be!
Thanks for my very first sleepover Erin and Alexa!

music class
The same day that Elijah went back to school, Samuel started Music Class. This is the same program/teacher with whom Elijah took when he was ages 3 and 4. Now it's Sammy's turn. I didn't know how he'd do since during the summer in a 4-week T-ball class I had him in, that was parent participation, he really clung to me... BUT thankfully he went in with no problem and LOVES it. He has had 4 classes so far (he goes 1/week for 50min) and already refers to "clicks" and "scapes" (which are families of instruments) when he makes a sound with his toys "that sounds like a click!".
Gabi and I either go for a walk during his class or quickly run to do some grocery shopping. Sammy is in the age 4 class due to scheduling - I have kept Wednesdays open (which the 3 year old class is on) so that I can attend our church's Women's Ministry - hopefully it actually gets going soon since I can actually attend this year! We'll see!
I don't have Samuel in preschool this fall yet. I figure with his advancement in speech, thought and conversation ability combined with his early-in-the-year birthday that I will wait til he is 4 to put him into preschool as to not possibly contribute to boredom in Kindergarten. As it is he will be closer to 6 years old, by the time he goes to Kindergarten! (In Canada our cut-off for School Entry is Dec 31... whereas in the USA it's sometime in the summer/early fall? Is that right?)
I love having him home anyway - he plays well with Gabi and on his own while she naps. Such a joy!
Here he is getting settled in on his second class:

back to school
well, it's already October and I'm finally getting to this post! Sheesh! What is changing around here that I am blogging less? Not sure! LOL. Jason has officially taken over a new (existing) brokerage as of yesterday, so things in that department of our life have changed hugely - but otherwise my roles of Mom of 5, Homemaker, Wife... have not changed all that much... not sure where my time is going!
Oh well... I'll get back to this regularly soon, I hope!
So waaaay back in September, though not until the 8th, Elijah went back to school. So sad - I really loved our first summer (meaning all summers up to this point really didn't mean it was our only "down time" since we weren't into the school system yet). I knew Elijah would do well entering grade 1 - no problems - however I did shed some tears as we entered the room on his first day.
as we entered the room, me batting away tears, the Teacher wanted a picture of us so I am suprised to see I really did make my tears flee, you can hardly tell I was emotional!
His first assignment: 'I'm a First Grader' hat! NO, that's not what it says, does it!! LOL, haha, my American readers - this is how we CandAdians say it: "I'm a grade oner!"
Elijah has two teachers. One who teaches 4 days each week and the other who teaches just on Thursdays. They are great teachers - very organized with a website and all - right up my alley! I have been in the classroom once already helping out and am due there every other week for an hour, which I am looking forward to!
A week later we went to an Open House/Meet the Teacher night at school. Elijah showed me how they use the pointer to do the calendar...
and this drawing was up on the wall that night, which I find funny because for both fairs we went to this summer we didn't do a single ride! LOL. I guess the "rides" we did partake of were in Seaside in which we went on the carousel and the mini-train... oh well!

more summer fun
This is out of order - partly because I am sooo behind on blogging! I hope to get some posts done soon!
In mid-August we took in another (2nd) free movie across the Line and did a bit of shopping (groceries at a GREAT place for CHEAP) --- so Alexa and her kids met us at the theatre. We watched Space Chimps. Then we ate a "picnic" lunch in the food court and headed to Target and Deals. It was a rushed trip since we needed to be back by 4:00 to pick up our Girls from school - but we did manage to squeeze in there some yummy ice cream cones before crossing back over!
Fun day! Can't wait for next summer!
Gabi and Erin are wearing matching dresses but I didn't get a picture of them together.

PNE
On Friday, August 28th we went to the PNE - finally! I've been to playland plenty of times as a Teen, but never made it to the PNE. We had a great day!
Johnny and the Sprites were there - so that was a hit! We sat right at the front! Nice for the kids to see him in real life!
sandcastle contests:
character parade (kinda copying D-Land, but not anywhere close the quality, of course)
petting area:
new piggies:
Glad we got there this year!

Second Cousins
Labour Day Weekend
For Labour Day weekend we made our annual trip to the Okanagan to visit Friends: Noah, Katherine, Beth and Ky. We had a great time as usual!
Here's a few shots of our trip (how to narrow it down to only post a few?)...
Sammy playing {with someone else's toys is always fun!}
and a walk to the horses of course...
These "popping" berries as they were named, were a hit! The kids through them on the road, and stomped on them for a neat little 'pop!' - then when a car was making it's way down the road, a mad-rush to throw as many berries onto the path of the vehicle in order to hear 'pop, pop, pop!' as it drove past!
Kelly holding up the "berries":
We went out to Margaret Falls again this year, but not into the Falls like last year -

And a stop at DeMills(?) to see the animals and for ice cream of course!
and hoping the fireban lifted, we had a quick fire for Sunday lunch: hotdogs and marshmallows/smores!

Muffin Tin Monday
I have more posts to do to catch up on our summer - but since I just posted this on our Live Life to the Full blog - I thought I'd duplicate it here...
Head on over to Live Life to the Full for some great decluttering ideas Alexa is posting!
It's about time I got another MTM meal for my children - Elijah has just begun Grade One and he was/is very enthusiastic about this special meal but Sam and Gabi enjoyed it thoroughly today too! Today's theme was APPLES! I just love this time of year!

I went into my file of different themes I have from my ECE days and came up with a little "circle" time with these felt board variations:
"Four Red Apples"
"10 Red Apples" fingerplay
and "Apple Trouble" by Ragnhild Scamell which we have on CD (love books on CD!)
And here's our muffin tin:
apple slices with a caramel to dip in (last week I made a caramel sauce but didn't have time for that today); apple-shaped toast which my children sprinkled on cinnamon/sugar mixture; applesauce with cinnamon sprinkled on top; apple-shaped cheese and farmyard crackers - the apple cookie cutter can easily be used for pumpkin shapes too!

dipping into the Dulce de leche
Delicious!
