Gabi's Room

2 weeks ago, Jason did up Gabi's room a little! It was a green colour which was fine and works with a Tinkerbell theme I was planning for - so we kept one wall (around the window) that green and then painted the remaining 3 walls purple (it really is a light purple, though it may come across as pink). Jason put up wainscoting (the white on the bottom half), with a chair rail and small crown moulding around the top. Looks great!
I got up the girly net and Tinkerbell wall stickies... it's adorable. Here's a peek:a little Tinkerbell tea play setand new closet door in background:

names

As a last minute thing to make for our new girls' bedroom - personalizing is key to a warm welcome I believe!... I drummed up these...
I bought these 2 flower shapes (that are meant to be "masks" to look through? for $1.50each...and then just traced the shape onto patterned paper, modgepodged onto the flower... added these wooden shapes and chipboard letters - voila - and since I have been terrible at showing you our house, I did take some pictures of the Student's bedroom we have set up and may as well share the 3 pictures with you... the room is a "L" shape but it's kinda hard to figure it out by these photos...

my backyard

I can't believe I haven't shown you house pictures yet... we've already lived here for more than 6months. I'll give you some views of our backyard though now...
In April, Jason did a lot of work on our backyard and it looks awesome -
he removed rock from this area along the fence in order to give us a bit more grass area (he hauled a lot of rock from here and there - way too much rock!)our trampoline was in this area (above) when we first set it up in December, but now Jason moved it to the other side of our yard. Jason placed lots of the rocks (not all) under the trampoline's new home and lined the fence (which he also fixed) with cedars after he took down the shed that used to be there (talk about a lot of work!)notice the brick paths in this photo (below)? Jason took those out as well as the entire grass area that you see in these photos and replaced it with turf First of all he flattened out a good area just up these stairs here - where he built up a retaining wall and laid some turf and re-built a playhouse that was given to us...you can notice the nice grass and the little brick paths that he removed in this photo aboveand we bought this slide that so far is sitting on the steep slope and works just fine, but we aren't sure that that's where it will stay, for now it works! the slide is just above the new retaining wall that Jason built
We have an apple tree just near the slide - we'll see how it bears fruit... and some other mystery plants/trees:and this Spring has been like Christmas in that we didn't know what would be blooming - it was all a surprise! We have a gorgeous Magnolia tree and 4 rhododendron bushes, like this, but one was pink, one is red and two purple ones:and these ferns are growing in lots of places - really makes me believe we are living in a rain forest! (we do!)this gorgeous clematis showed up along our wall of ivyso we've (Jason) still got a lot of work ahead this fall when Jason will heavily sand our lawn, which didn't take as well as we had hoped and planned for... there are parts by the trampoline area that actually didn't take root - which has been extremely frustrating and disappointing for Jason who put so much energy into it. It's clay back there and not a nice soil... water just sits on it and doesn't soak up nicely. Hopefully he can figure out a plan to make it how he would like it to be! I love our backyard... swimming pool (on the deck as to not wreck our grass) with our hot weatherOne more thing Jason would like to do shortly is re-stain this deck too - it was only built last summer, but when we moved in, in November it was just trashed from the previous owners dog and weather. Always something to do!

Thanks, Hon, for all your hard work for making it even more beautiful!

Where the Wild Things Are

...in the middle of a city?! LOL. We basically live in a downtown area and so you would think that it would unlikely to find "wild things" in our area. We have lots and lots of birds (they like the red berry trees, right Teresa?!), a number of squirrels and now apparently racoons.
On July 4, in the evening when Kurt and Dana came to meet Gabriella, we heard a whole lot of racket out back. We looked out to see why the birds were being so loud and there in the corner was a racoon!Unreal! And then this morning when I was up to feed Gabi I heard some rustling in the backyard again. I peeked out to find a or the racoon! Crazy! Who'd a thought?! (no, I didn't go and grab my camera for a photo this morning, this was taken on the 4th) And hey, Sarah has a Racoon Story on her blog too!

So Gabriella almost slept "all night" (according to many, to sleep through the night means sleeping 6 hours consecutively)!!!! She went 5 hours for me! Hooray! I didn't have to get up with her until 4:45am (going to bed about 11:30). Sweet! I've heard Girls are better and faster at this nighttime stuff. Let's hope she continues. Although her regular self up until now hasn't been bad either. 3-4 hours, I can live with that! (of course, I was up last night with Samuel before I was up with Gabi, but such is life! I don't mind.)

And I see I haven't updated my sidebar yet. I thought about it on Sunday and should have just done it. I will get to it soon. Today I am working on getting the Girl's bits and pieces out of "their" room so that the Student we have arriving tomorrow has the room ready for him. Yup, we have a Japanese boy, Hiroki, coming for a short trip to Canada, only 11 days.

It's beginning to look a lot like Spring!!!

The sun has been shining more; I've got my jean capris on today (thanks to Julie for lending me an assortment of Maternity clothes!), the birds are chirping at 3:00am (really)... it's light out til after 7:30pm... andI've planted some annuals already. These are the ones that Superstore has had lining their entrance way for over a month already... andone of my Rhodo Bushes is starting to bloom!... andI noticed these mini daffodils popped up too. Alexa gave these to me as a house warming gift last April... glad that they have popped out on their own! Thanks for these... what a wonderful gift idea, the gift that keeps on giving! Click this to see the post I did with these daffodils last year.
Welcome Spring... when is the First day of Spring, I can't see it on my calendar?
