paralympics

We were away for most of the paralympics, so when we got back, we had one day to go and take in the Olympics one last time. On Saturday, March 20 we headed into Town. This time we got into the Vancouver Site and happened to be there to get a picture with the Stanley Cupand the kids played some interactive games... we spent a couple hours in there.

There were a few street entertainers still...
and this one Elijah wrote about in a piece of his writing at school and referred to him as a Rockstar, which he is (Alice C.)

14 golds, 7 silvers, 5 bronze for Canada

On Friday Jason and Kurt got to sneak away to Whistler for the day and take in the atmosphere up there, as well as getting into the medal game for Men's Biathalon. They were gone for 20 hours and had a great time, of course!

With this being the last weekend of the Olympics, we actually went back Downtown on the 27th with the kids. Happy to partake in the spirit again!
First we took the SeaBus back and forth - a first for the kids and I.this crazy, wicked steep escalator coming up to ground level from one sky train station(how ironic is that? sky train below ground!)did I mention in an earlier post, that I was hoping to get a better pic of the Canada flag? well, here it is and it's cool reflection in the following photo:zipline across Robson - just observing, although a free activity, not doable with children in tow!and the Downtown Sleep Country store converted the front 1/3 of their store into a neat Olympic display... we were able to pose in this bobsledwe got to skip the line we quickly heard, if we had small children - when outside of Science World - so we actually went into the overhauled SW that was now Russia's Center since they are hosting the winter olympics in 2014.Here is one of the mascots they've created for the 2014 GamesFun Fun Day!

We thoroughly got into the Gold Medal Hockey Game on the 28th - and got out to celebrate on our "main street" in town that afternoon --- pics are on my other camera at home. (we're in Anaheim right now)

downtown for olympic fever

We are so lucky to live close to one of the greatest events in Vancouver's history - on Thursday, Feb 18th we took Elijah out of school at Noon and headed in. It was a well-worth trip - we had a blast taking some of it in!
The adventure started with the kids' first trip on the Sky Train!and all dressed very patriotic -(Elijah has a Quatchie jogging outfit on, you'll see)

Remember these Eagles I posted in October when we were Downtown with Kelly and Lily? Here's another - Sammy remembered posing by many of them in October so he right away posed in front of this first one we saw off of the sky train - and look at all these Coke People behind him!we didn't go into any of the Livesites or Pavilions (too long of lines) but stayed entertained by many different street entertainers (tap dancing, spoon-playing, juggling) and LOTS of walkingI want a better picture of this flag - jeepers, I could have taken a perfect one in October - we're hoping to get back Downtown this weekend before the Olympics end, so I may have my chance yetthe cauldronAnd how awesome to see the Olympic Mascots do a little 15 minute ice show for us on the Robson Square ice! Yea!!!the kids even got to high-five them after the showwe caught the overtime of a hockey game by standing in the street with many of these folks, looking into this restaurant's little TV and joining in the cheering! It was such a fun experience - hearing cheering coming from buildings/restaurants all down street!

And as I mentioned we did a lot of walking - from Station Sky Train station, around and about, to Waterfront, more around and about, to Yale Town... and back to Station sky Train station around 8:15pm when we headed for home! Elijah and Sam fell asleep on the sky train... way too cute, my troopers!
